The demo was released on the US PlayStation Store on Thursday, so I downloaded and played it. I've had this game on pre-order for a few weeks.
This is actually my first Ninja Gaiden experience. I've never owned an Xbox or Xbox 360, and I never got around to getting the first Sigma game for PS3. (And I somehow skipped over the NES games - I don't think they were very popular.)
I've heard/read/seen a fair amount of information regarding the Ninja Gaiden series, so I knew what to expect for the most part. I'm very much a fan of this sort of action game, so I'm surprised it has taken me this long to experience the series.
The biggest expectation I had involved difficulty - I knew the NG games were infamous for their relentless difficulty. Despite this, I loaded up the NGS2 demo and went straight for the harder difficulty option. And it delivered!
Most games in this genre tend to devolve into mindless button mashing, but that doesn't seem to work for this series. If you're running through the higher difficulty, you really won't get too far through simply mashing buttons. I'm sure this only becomes more apparent as you traverse the additional difficulty settings.
Overall I'm happy with what I see. The game presents a nice challenge, yet remains fun and enjoyable. Perhaps this will all change in the real deal, when I'm being mercilessly sliced to bits - fueling my rage meter. We shall see!
Oh, and as far as the session details go:
Completed Ryu's side on the Warrior difficulty, unlocking a third difficulty setting as well as Ayane's side. I then completed Ayane's (which as far as I can tell has no selectable difficulty in the demo), unlocking two team missions. Then I completed each of the team missions. (Which, by the way, are pretty cool. I know this is a new feature for the Ninja Gaiden series, and I think it will be a good one - especially online!)
